Being Yourself Is Not Your Best Idea

“Just be yourself, and everything will be fine.”

I cannot count the number of times that I have heard this piece of advice given by a well-meaning friend to someone apprehensive about communicating with another human being. (TIP: This is the worst advice you can give to someone.)
